The characters in a drama can be categorized as 'round characters' or 'flat characters'. Oedipus, the tragic king of Thebes, does not heed Tiresias’ warning and pays dearly for it.[4] The authority of Tiresias is used to encourage Oedipus’ son Eteocles to wage war on his brother, and Eteocles then seeks out the blind prophet’s counsel.[5] Oedipus utters an ironic curse on the yet unrevealed killer, wishing for him "the crimes that I have fled from".
